The Birth of Jesus

1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register. 4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." 13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." 15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." 16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Here is a video that I showed in children's church one morning as an ice breaker. It was a big hit with the kids. If you listen to it, I have to warn you that you may not be able to get the song out of your head. ENJOY!!!

Awana Camp-Out

We will be having the Awana Camp-Out at the church in the field on October 2. We will start Friday evening at 7 pm and kids need to be picked up by 9 am on Saturday morning. Supper will not be served on Friday, kids will be given snacks, a light breakfast on Saturday morning. There will be a charge of $2 per person to help us cover the cost. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come and join in with us. Make sure kids have tents if they have one, a sleeping bag, and anything else they may need. Thanks, I hope to see all of you there.

Awana and Children's Choirs

It is that time of year again. All of of children's programs are now in full swing. On Sunday evenings at 5:30 pm Awana is available for all children, ages 4 - 5th grade. Awana is a wonderful ministry, in which children are encouraged to memorize verses for the Word of God. There are also games and children's worship service called council time. Each year our kids learn thousands of bible verses and grow in Christ as they do so.

On Wednesday evenings our Children's choirs start at 6:30 pm and are available for pre-school thru the 5th grade. Our kids take part in learning the basics of reading music, playing some instruments , as well as performing there own musicals. They will also have the opportunity on occasion to sing and help lead us in worship during the Sunday morning services. This is an excellent ministry that help your kids grow as that worship our Lord and Savior.

Please take advantage of these children's ministries as well as Sunday school, every week. It is our responsibility as parents to give our children every chance to grow in the Lord.

Community Carnival

Join us on Sunday August 23 for a community Carnival and kick-off for our Awana children's program. The Carnival will go from 2 pm - 6 pm. This promises to be an exciting event for the entire family, complete with lots of games, music, a giant inflatable slide, moon walk, puppets, youth dance team and much more. We hope to see all of you there.

Summer is here!!!

Hey Kids and Moms and Dads,

I'm sorry it's been a while since my last post. Things have been crazy lately. I wanted to let you know that during the summer months we will be having quite a few different things going on with our children. We are planning a campout, roller skating, get wet night, another family movie day, parent's night out, and more. I hope you plan on being a part of the fun. God is doing some great things in our children's ministry.

New Children's Church Kick-Off

We will have our official Kick-Off for the new children's church set on March 15. This will take place during the morning worship service. We will have "Big Church" in the gym and then we will have children's church while the adults get to watch the kids have fun as they learn about Jesus. Make plans to be there, this will e a very exciting day for the kids and adults.

Another Awesome Day in Kids Church

Yesterday was a great day. The kids seem to be excited to be there, or maybe it was just me. We talked about how God calls our name. We use the examples of:

One day, Moses saw a burning bush and went over to take a look. God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses answered, "Here I am." (Exodus 3:4)

As Jesus walked down the streets of Jericho one day, he stopped and looked up in a tree. "Zacchaeus,come down right now. I am going to your house today." When Jesus called his name, Zacchaeus came down. (Luke 19:5)

Before the apostle Paul became a follower of Christ, his name was Saul. As he was going to Damascus to persecute the disciples, a bright light flashed around him. He fell to the ground and he heard a voice from heaven say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" Saul answered, "Who are you, Lord?" (Acts 9:1-5)

After using these examples I asked a few of the kids to act out a great story of God calling someone. The story was of Samuel and how he kept hearing the voice of God during the night and kept waking up Eli to see if he was calling him. Eli finally realized the Lord was calling Samuel and he told Samuel to answer Him. The kids did a great job acting out this story. I think all that were there will remember it for a long time.    

Children's Pastors' Conference

This past week Ginger and I were able to attend the International Network of Children's Pastors' Conference in Nashville, TN. It was AWESOME! It was alot like going back to school. We woke up around 6 am, went to classes on a variety of things starting at 8 am until 6 pm, then we went to the general session with 3000+ other children's pastors and workers. The general sessions were times of worship each evening as well as at lunch time each day. We were able to learn and be encouraged by a number of speakers, entertainers, singers, and comics. The training that we were a part of will be of great help as we teach all of our children about the wonderful love of Jesus. God really worked on us this past week. He gave us a new excitement for ministering to kids and youth. 

    I am striving to grow closer to my Savior Jesus and as I try to serve him with all that I am, I pray that God will start to touch the lives of the children and families we are able to minister to. I have committed to God to study His Word daily, to devote a time at least once a week for my family and I to study His Word together, and also to daily seek His will for the direction He wants me to go in serving Him.
